During these uncertain times, our everyday life can feel very different. Many of us are separated from our families and loved ones, and daily updates of the toll this terrible virus is having are very worrying.
But I wanted to write to you today to let you know we’re thinking about you, and to thank you for the wonderful support you have given to Womankind. We are incredibly fortunate to have a movement of supporters like you, across the UK and around the world, standing alongside us and giving us strength and hope in these darkest of times.
What we’re doing to help
Through our partnerships with grassroots women’s rights organisations, we are busy assessing and adapting our work to best support women and girls as they face enforced lockdowns, food and water shortages and increased levels of violence.
For example, our partner Association for Women's Sanctuary and Development (AWSAD) in Ethiopia has opened an emergency shelter (pictured right) to house more women fleeing violence at home. Whilst Polycom Development Project in Kenya are providing information materials to girls in the Kibera slum on the importance of handwashing and distributing soap, washing liquid and sanitary towels.
Over the next few weeks we will be sharing further email updates on how our individual partners are responding to the COVID-19 crisis. In an email next week, I will share with you how partners in Nepal are continuing their vital work under lockdown.
We’re here for you
Womankind staff are all working safely at home, and are here if you need to talk, even if it’s just to say hello! We are doing our best to respond as quickly as possible so if you’d like to get in touch, please do. We’d love to hear from you.
