Dino had a rough stretch too. We rescued him from Chicago Animal Care and Control (CACC), the city impoundment facility, after he was reportedly hit by a car, but that wasn’t the full story.  

Our vets determined his back leg hip had been dislocated for quite some time. And an x-ray revealed an old bullet fragment in his shoulder.  

When pet overpopulation runs rampant, we see more and more pets like Dino who have gone without care for too long. It’s up to all of us to stop the suffering.  

Chicago is in the midst of an historic surge in homeless and at-risk pets due to a perfect storm of post-pandemic hardships. PAWS is saving lives every day, but with warmer weather, puppies and kittens are flooding shelters, and another threat looms large—an even greater population surge this fall.  

The only way to prevent the current crisis from spiraling out of control is to increase our lifesaving efforts, including free and low-cost spay/neuter surgeries, RIGHT NOW. As the only high volume free and low-cost spay/neuter clinic in Chicago, PAWS is on track to perform 18,000 procedures this year. Every one will save lives.
