Friend
To many Americans, Juneteenth is a fairly
new federal holiday. But the first celebrations of this extraordinary
moment in American history took place 159 years
ago.
In school we were
all taught that “Lincoln freed the
slaves.”
Today we know the story did not end
there, and that in fact the struggle for Black liberation is ongoing –
and we each have a part to play.
To put it simply, a debt is
owed.
The historic crime
of enslavement must be addressed beginning with a guarantee of
reparations paid directly to the descendants of African slaves as an
unequivocal human right.
We don’t need any
further debate on whether reparations should be paid.
They should, without question, as they were in 1988 to those impacted by
WWII Japanese internment camps.
Yet just as the systemic oppression of Black
Americans did not end with the legal abolishment of chattel slavery,
reparations are merely the beginning – not the end – of the agenda we
urgently need to embrace to facilitate Black liberation in
America.
Civil Rights
legend Fannie Lou Hamer famously said, “Nobody’s free until everybody’s
free."
Everything
that Black Americans are fighting for aligns with the Green Party
agenda and a progressive vision for our collective
future.
My administration will eliminate the
cancer of white supremacy in our legal systems by issuing an immediate moratorium on all
proposed Cop Cities (ending all federal investment in such
facilities), eliminating white nationalists from our police forces
with federal oversight, establishing a National Office for Civilian
Oversight of law enforcement, and creating a multi-agency task force
for returning citizens to support the formerly incarcerated – just to
name a few.
We will expand our national
historical and cultural understanding of Black history by including race and ethnicity in all
programs funded by federal dollars, increasing investment in
Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and ensuring the
Office of Civil Rights is fully staffed and
funded.
We will promote Black wealth, Black
health, and Black lives by
investing in Black-owned businesses, ensuring single-payer healthcare
addresses disparities for the Black community – particularly Black
women. – and eliminate food deserts.
These are just a few of the policies we can
and will implement under a Jill Stein administration. You can read

Our platform for Black liberation is the collaborative work of
our extraordinary team and Black community members who are directly
impacted by these issues in their daily lives. I am grateful for all
the voices and experiences that contribute to our movement, and I am
committed to seeing their experiences rendered into policy in the
White House.
To fulfill this vision and deliver
a clear mandate at the ballot box this year, we need your support
today. Please consider a contribution to support the team that brought
our platform to life – and help us get this agenda on the ballot for
EVERY American in November. |
