It’s Juneteenth, John: the day that enslaved people in Texas were finally told that they were free following the passage of the Emancipation Proclamation two and a half years prior.
Today, we’re commemorating the end of slavery in the United States while also honoring the Black progressive candidates in state and local offices across the country who are making a difference in their communities.
Run for Something works to support Black candidates and engage Black communities across the state and local levels. By recruiting and electing more young, Black progressives to public office, we're able to support the folks who are directly working to fight racism in our politics and ensure that our government is equal and just for all.
