John,
Today, my team is commemorating Juneteenth, a significant day in our nation’s history that marks the end of slavery in the United States.
On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, with the news that the Civil War had ended and enslaved people were now free—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
As we celebrate, we must also recognize the long-lasting legacy of slavery and the scars of inequity that it left behind.
On this Juneteenth, let’s recommit ourselves to fighting for fair representation, justice, and equity for Black Americans.
From everyone here at Team Scholten, Happy Juneteenth!
In solidarity,
Hillary Scholten
