John — today is Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved Black people in the United States. It marks the day, June 19, 1865, when news of the Emancipation Proclamation finally reached the last group of enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, two and a half years after it was issued.
This day is a profound reminder of the journey from slavery to freedom and the ongoing fight for equality and justice. It's also a moment to reflect on the remarkable spirit of the Black community—a spirit that has endured generations of struggle and emerged with unmatched resilience and joy.
Yet, the fullness of Black joy can only be realized when we are seen, valued, and empowered. This is why our mission at the National Domestic Workers Alliance shines a spotlight on Black domestic workers, a group who have been undervalued and overlooked for too long.
Through our We Dream in Black initiative, we are igniting a movement brimming with hope and dedication. When you donate to We Dream in Black, you're not just supporting a program, you're fueling a movement of empowerment and liberation .
So this Juneteenth I’m asking you to make an investment in Black joy [[link removed]] , to amplify the voices of countless women, and create a future where domestic workers are celebrated for their invaluable contributions.

Black domestic workers continue to face immense discrimination and exploitation. Yet, they have always been at the forefront of advocating for fair treatment and recognition, leading the way for all domestic workers.
Women like Adela embody this fighting spirit. Adela is a nanny and single mother who is now a worker leader and trainer in our New York We Dream in Black chapter.
Adela shared that when she first walked into the We Dream in Black offices, she found a place where she could be her whole self. The We Dream in Black monthly meetings opened her eyes to the unfair treatment so many care workers face EVERY day and the information and skills she learned became a source of empowerment.
Now, Adela’s involvement has grown into leadership. Thanks to We Dream in Black's community and resources, she is able to help other workers ensure they receive fair compensation, and she has transformed from a quiet force into a fearless advocate.
When you give to We Dream in Black, you are making more than a donation. It’s an investment that creates a ripple effect of empowerment, leading to better lives for Black domestic workers and stronger, more joyful communities [[link removed]] . Your donations fuel a movement that uplifts, empowers, and transforms.
This Juneteenth, fuel the movement. Fuel Black joy [[link removed]] . Today is more than a historical milestone; it’s a day to honor the laughter, the music, the art, and the love that have sustained us through adversity. It’s a time to celebrate the power of Black joy as a form of resistance and a catalyst for transformative change.
Together, we can honor the legacy of Juneteenth by creating a world where all domestic workers thrive. A world where Black joy radiates, illuminating the path towards true liberation.

The majority of domestic workers sit at the center of some of our nation’s most decisive issues because of who they are and what they do: they are women – mostly women of color, immigrants, mothers, and low-wage workers. They are impacted by almost every policy affecting the future of our economy, democracy and country.
Domestic workers can lead us toward a new, inclusive vision for the future for all of us -- and your grassroots support is the fuel that can get us there.
