VIDEO OF THE DAY: Secret footage exposes Trump's shocking 2024 election plan
Lauren Windsor, the investigative journalist and documentarian who brought us the Samuel Alito tape bombshell last week, proved once again she's a veritable expert at getting right-wing jabronis to say damaging things on tape. Her latest target? Trump whisperer and walking cartoon villain Roger Stone. What Stone had to say at Mar-a-Lago should send a shiver down your spine. “At least this time when they do it, you have a lawyer and a judge — his home phone number standing by — so you can stop it...We made no preparations last time, none … There are technical, legal steps that we have to take to try and have a more honest election. We’re not there yet, but there’s things that can be done,” said Stone, revealing that the Trump team is doggedly preparing a legal offensive to steal the 2024 election. If they made "no preparations" last time — which included a wide-ranging conspiracy in multiple states to put forth fake electors and overthrow American democracy — we need to be MORE than ready this time around. Of course, the one way we can avoid all this is by making sure Joe Biden wins by an insurmountable margin.

UN food chief: World's poorest areas have zero harvests left
Droughts and flooding have become so common in some of the poorest places on Earth that the land can no longer sustain crops, announced Martin Frick, the director of the World Food Program’s global office. It seems that the ravages of climate change have pushed some of the most deprived areas over a tipping point of having “zero” harvests left. As a result, parts of Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America are now wholly dependent on humanitarian aid. Unless we take decisive action to transition to a zero-carbon energy economy, there's no telling how much of the world will end up like this — or how many billions of people will suffer and starve because of it.

Ethics committee investigating Matt Gaetz over more alleged sexual misconduct
A bipartisan Capitol Hill committee is formally investigating accused sex trafficker and man believed to be made entirely of hairspray, Matt Gaetz. “The committee is reviewing allegations … that Representative Gaetz may have: engaged in sexual misconduct and illicit drug use, accepted improper gifts, dispensed special privileges and favors to individuals with whom he had a personal relationship, and sought to obstruct government investigations of his conduct," said the committee in its press release. In his response, the Florida MAGA clown complained, "This is Soviet. Kevin McCarthy showed them the man, and they are now trying to find the crime. I work for north-west Floridians who won’t be swayed by this nonsense, and McCarthy and his goons know it.” The bipartisan nature of this committee is evidence enough that, like the rest of us, even some of his fellow Republicans are officially over the Matt Gaetz experience and are ready to find someone less odious and reprehensible to work with.

Congress passes mammoth energy bill boosting nuclear power
The Senate voted — wait, this can't be right — 98 to 2?!? to pass major legislation to launch a reactor-building spree to meet surging demand for green electricity. The bill passed the House 365 to 36 — WHAT IS GOING ON — and now heads to President Biden's desk. The landmark legislation will slash the fees the Nuclear Regulatory Commission charges developers, speeds up the process for licensing new reactors and hiring key staff, and directs the agency to work with foreign regulators to open doors for US exports in an effort to revive America's once booming nuclear power industry. The bill’s supporters have pitched the legislation as essential to making the US competitive with China — oh, that explains it — and authorizes the Department of Energy to give out financial awards to the first companies to meet specific goals, such as using fuel made from recycled nuclear waste or generating heat that could be used for things other than electricity production. While there are serious safety risks to take into consideration, anyone sweltering under this heatwave knows that we need lots and lots of clean energy, and we need it FAST — and more nuclear energy could be the key to solving America's insatiable hunger for electricity.

Donald Trump goes on damage control tour in Wisconsin after trashing Milwaukee
Days after telling House Republicans that RNC host city Milwaukee was a "horrible city," the MAGA cult leader held a rally in Racine, Wisconsin, where he declared that actually he loves Milwaukee and claimed he personally chose the host city before launching into an unhinged, 90-minute speech that once again had him discussing sharks, slurring his words about how "Joe Bride" was "forming granting mass", vowing to roll back Biden's student loan debt cancellation, and — of course — claiming that he won the election in 2020. The convicted felon's rally also featured a rare public appearance from carpet-bagging GOP Senate candidate Eric Hovde, who nervously squeaked his way through a cringey line about how Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin agrees with President Biden too much before bragging that he argues with his wife a lot, or something. A deranged racist and a swagless oligarch — two peas in a very rotten pod that is today's Republican Party.
White House baffled by Netanyahu's claim Biden is withholding weapons
On Tuesday, embattled Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a frantic video statement publicly chastising the Biden administration for withholding weapons from Israel, much to the bewilderment of the White House. "We genuinely do not know what he's talking about," said White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. Despite facing immense pressure from progressive Democrats and human rights activists to stop pouring weapons into Israel, whose murderous war against Hamas has killed more than 37,000 people and displaced millions of Palestinian civilians, the Biden administration has yet to change course, so it is truly bizarre to see Netanyahu make such unfounded accusations. "This man should not be addressing Congress. He is a war criminal. And he certainly has no regard for US law, which is explicitly designed to prevent US weapons from facilitating human rights abuses," wrote Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter in response to the video.

Vermont Republican secretly poured water into Democratic colleague’s bag for months
Spite has always been an animating force behind the Republican Party, and never has that been more clear than in the bizarre case of 67-year-old state Rep. Mary Morrissey, who was caught on video dumping a water bottle into Democratic colleague Jim Carroll's bag. Carroll told The Guardian that Morrissey had been pouring cups of water into his bag since January and caught her in the act on film. He said Morrissey initially admitted she “flicked” water on the bag because she saw a bug on it, but she later added that she didn't know why she decided to dump water on Carroll’s bag for months on end. As for whether he forgives Morrissey, Carroll said: “I guess I would have to say yes in the spirit of forgiveness, reluctantly. But if I had to be a smartass, I’d say her apology holds about as much water as my canvas bag.”
3 weeks before Oct. 7, IDF Gaza Division warned of Hamas plan to attack, take 250 hostages
A document compiled within the IDF’s Gaza Division less than three weeks before October 7, 2021, warned that Hamas was training for a large-scale invasion of Israel during which hostages would be taken en masse, the Kan public broadcaster revealed Monday. Titled "Detailed raid training from end to end," the document was circulated on September 19 and was reportedly brought to the attention of at least some senior intelligence officials, but was ignored. The report follows numerous others in which the military was said to have received and compiled intelligence material and other information pointing to the imminent invasion and massacre. Israel had multiple sources of information on Hamas’ drills and other preparations for an assault in the weeks and even hours ahead of October 7, reportedly including a 2022 attack plan from the terror group. Yet IDF forces were still caught by surprise and still have not made a deal to recover the remaining hostages some nine months later.
"I know it happens:" Boeing chief admits the company has retaliated against whistleblowers
A bipartisan group of US senators tore into Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun over his handling of whistleblowers, the deadly 737 MAX crashes scandal, the recent spate of airplane malfunctions, and his EXTREMELY generous compensation package. GOP Sen. Josh Hawley must have decided it was his once-a-year Burnish My Populist Chops Day and aggressively confronted Calhoun over his $32.8 million salary. “If safety is a component of your $33 million compensation package, how can you qualify for any of this? I think the truth is, Mr. Calhoun, you're not focused on safety, you're not focused on quality, you're not focused on transparency...For the American people, they're in danger; for your workers, they're in peril; for your whistleblowers, they literally fear for their lives; but you're getting compensated like never before!” faux-raged Hawley. It must be broken clock day in the Senate or something. In addition, Calhoun admitted that he knew retaliation against whistleblowers was occurring but conveniently could not give any details. The senators weren't the only hostile audience Calhoun had to face; many family members of the victims of the 737 crashes were present and were not pleased with his tepid apology. “What is justice? What is accountability? They should be in jail!" said the mother of Danielle Moore, who died in the 2019 737 MAX crash in Ethiopia. She's got a point.
As Juneteenth grows in US, southern states cling to Confederate holidays
Juneteenth has been recognized as a US federal holiday since 2021 and acts as a day to celebrate the official end of slavery in the country — but millions of Americans will not have the day off today, June 19, to mark the occasion. At least 30 states — including most recently Rhode Island and Kentucky — and the District of Columbia recognize Juneteenth as an official public holiday. But ten other states, all in the American south, of course, have at least one day commemorating the Confederacy, and six former Confederate states have thus far refused to officially recognize Juneteenth: Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, South Carolina, and North Carolina. Old, racist habits die hard, we guess?
