Dear Friends,
When running for County Judge, one of my top priorities was delivering property tax relief. At the time I took office, Tarrant County and the JPS Hospital District offered no homestead exemptions of any kind on property taxes. The state allows these entities to offer up to 20%. Of the 6 largest counties in Texas, 5 offered the full 20% homestead exemption on county property taxes. Tarrant, which is the 3rd largest, was at 0%.
Last year, we put in place 10% homestead exemptions for the County and Hospital District for the first time ever. As of yesterday afternoon, Tarrant County has now adopted the maximum Homestead Exemptions allowed by state law for both the County and Hospital District - 20% for each. Setting both Homestead Exemptions at 20% for the first time in Tarrant County is not only historic, it's common sense responsible government.
I will continue working to lower property taxes. This is a big step and will collectively lower property taxes for homeowners by an additional $60 million annually. This follows our passage last year of tax rates below the no new revenue rates.
It's going to take all of us to bring more Conservative wins to Tarrant County in November. You can help me get out the message about our tax relief efforts, which will bring more voters to our side, by donating today!
I am always working to protect your hard earned dollars by seeking out and eliminating government bloat and waste. Thank you for your confidence and trust in me. Together, we are making Tarrant County a stronger, brighter, safer place for our families and businesses.
