We can all do our part to build a better future for everyone.

Johh – Happy Juneteenth!

The day word finally reached Texas that all enslaved Black Americans were free – nearly three years after President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation – would become known as Juneteenth. It’s a day to celebrate the African-American community and reflect on the ongoing fight for racial equality in this country.

But even as legal slavery ended, for many Black Americans, true freedom would not be a reality for a very long time. The fact is Black Americans have been fighting for their right to equality for generations.

The fight for justice and equality is far from over – just take a look at the actions of MAGA-Republicans over the last few years. Eliminating affirmative action and the removal of voting rights protections are just a few of the most recent attacks on Black communities. We must recognize our country's shameful history and actively fight against racism and inequality.

I believe we can all do our part to build a better future for everyone. While today is a day of celebration of the Black community and mourning the shameful reality of systemic racism, it can also be a day of decisive action. By supporting local Black-owned businesses, donating to organizations fighting for racial justice, and going to a Juneteenth event in your community, we can ALL do our part.

I hope you and your community enjoy a safe and happy Juneteenth!

Thank you,

Diana
