BREAKING: President Biden today announced new protections for undocumented spouses of U.S. citizens that could give an estimated 500,000 people the opportunity to work legally and pursue a more streamlined pathway to U.S. citizenship!
The new protections will end the fear of deportation and uncertainty of separation that families with undocumented spouses can’t escape right now, and deliver on President Biden’s promise to keep families together.
This is a BIG deal for domestic workers, John , who are twice as likely as other workers to have been born outside of the United States. That means it’s also a BIG deal for the care infrastructure of this country.
Hundreds of thousands of family members would not be breathing a sigh of relief without the tireless work of countless advocacy meetings, thousands of petition signatures, phone calls, and rallies. THANK YOU!
Today is a day to celebrate, John, and you can join the celebration and get all the latest updates on this announcement by following us on Twitter/X.

Today’s announcement tells people who have built their lives here for decades, and the hundreds of thousands of Americans who are their family members and loved ones, that we recognize their incredibly important role in our society.
Immigrant women work tirelessly as childcare workers, personal care aides, home health aides, and housecleaners. Together, they collectively ensure the well-being of countless families and enable millions of working adults to work across the economy.
Extending protections to these individuals, and providing them a pathway to citizenship that doesn’t involve years away from their families, is a strong step forward – and comes after so many of us added our voices calling for action.
NDWA’s President, Ai-jen Poo, was at the White House for the announcement today, and you can get all the latest updates by following us on Twitter/X.

Together, we can build a future where all families can live free from fear and uncertainty and where the essential work of caring for our communities is honored and respected.
Tomorrow there’ll be more hard work to do, but today is a moment to celebrate and to let this good news recharge us.

The majority of domestic workers sit at the center of some of our nation’s most decisive issues because of who they are and what they do: they are women – mostly women of color, immigrants, mothers, and low-wage workers. They are impacted by almost every policy affecting the future of our economy, democracy and country.
Domestic workers can lead us toward a new, inclusive vision for the future for all of us -- and your grassroots support is the fuel that can get us there.
