Innovative thinking overcomes bad policies yet again
[link removed]
Hi there,
North Carolina farmers are facing a lot of challenges today; feeding a growing population, protecting farmland, buying and maintaining expensive equipment, and, worst of all, struggling with outdated, harmful regulations.
And they aren’t the only ones suffering. Those outdated regulations mean you and I pay the price.
In the past year grocery bills rose roughly 15%! ([link removed])
Agriculture matters a lot to North Carolinians and these regulations impact your life.
Not just because they make your food more expensive, but because agriculture is one of our state’s most important industries.
It is not only a key part of North Carolina’s history, it is also a critical part of our economy.
Unfortunately, many regulations not only make food more expensive for consumers, but hurt many of our family farmers.
In fact,
carbon pricing alone represents up to 25 percent of total expenses for a farm. ([link removed])
And whether it’s fertilizer, grain drying, or fuel consumption, farmers produce a lot of emissions.
So carbon pricing makes farming A LOT more expensive.
One way small farms survive these unfair regulations is through
agritourism ([link removed]) .
Agritourism gives farm experiences to non-farmers who have an interest in where their food comes from. It offers different experiences like farm-to-table dining, educational farm tours covering dairy farming and beekeeping, and overnight stays.
The impact of it cannot be overstated. Agritourism boosts rural communities. It creates jobs and revenue, while contributing to the overall economic diversification of rural areas.
And while these innovations are great, it is a shame it's necessary because the government keeps trying to “save the world” with burdensome and costly regulations.
Instead the government should work WITH our small farmers. They should have the freedom to innovate in ways that will help them protect the environment, make a profit, stay in business, and put more food on the table!

1. 🏭🏭 Congress should stop the EPA’s dangerous power plant rule ([link removed])
What does it do?
* The EPA’s new power plant rule would effectively close down a LOT of power plants and prevent them from being replaced with natural gas plants
* It will drive electricity costs even higher.
* The electrical grid will become LESS dependable.
How do we stop it?
* Congress must pass a Congressional Review Act resolution of disapproval to overturn it.

2. 🗳️🗳️Will the State Board of Elections help the Democrats again? ([link removed])
Wait….What?!?
* Three minor political parties submitted petitions with more than enough verified signatures to be recognized by the North Carolina State Board of Elections (SBE)...and thus appear on the ballot.
So what’s the problem?
* Democrats think two of these parties will “steal their voters.” So they’re doing everything they can to keep two of those parties off the ballot
+ And the State Board of Elections has helped them in the past…and while the SBOE has helped the Dems, third parties have won in court to appear on the ballot
+ Now the Democrats raised an “army of lawyers” to stop these third parties.

3. 💰💰 Should North Carolina politics have a level playing field? (AKA what are the impacts of HB237’s campaign finance changes?) ([link removed])
What does a masking bill have to do with campaign finance?
* The North Carolina Legislature’s masking bill, HB237, garnered some controversy over its broad language banning masks.
* A recent conference report inserted some campaign finance changes into the bill.
So what happened?
* Senate Democrats opted to stage a walkout in protest…while making inaccurate claims about what these changes mean for the 2024 elections.
Okay, so what were the changes?
* You should read the full breakdown here ([link removed]) , but the simplest summary possible is that the new changes allow a national Republican PAC to support the NC Republican Party at the same level a national Democratic PAC supports the NC Democratic Party.
