Dear Friend,
Our state is home to many of the world’s “largest” items. The World’s Largest Hockey Stick in Eveleth, the World’s Largest Walleye in Baudette, and the World’s Largest Ball of Twine in Darwin. Unfortunately, Minnesota is also home to the Feeding Our Future scandal, which has been described as the “largest COVID-19 fraud scheme in the nation.”
The individuals involved in Feeding Our Future allegedly defrauded the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service, making off with more than $250 million intended to feed hungry children before they were stopped. The fraudsters allegedly used those taxpayer funds to purchase luxury vehicles, foreign real estate, and even an airplane!
Last week, the Minnesota Office of the Legislative Auditor released a report that revealed that the Minnesota Department of Education’s inadequate oversight of Feeding Our Future “created opportunities for fraud.” In response, we joined the rest of the Minnesota Republican Delegation in a letter to the Minnesota Department of Education demanding additional information as we continue our Congressional investigation into Feeding Our Future.
On a lighter note, last week we had the chance to meet with students from Salk Middle School in Elk River during their class trip to Washington. It was great to meet with these students and field their questions on our legislative process and our work in Congress.
Watch: Congressman Emmer Remembers Reis Grams and Jesse Haugen
Finally, I spoke on the floor of the House of Representatives in honor of Reis Grams and Jesse Haugen, two Minnesota outdoorsmen who recently passed away while canoeing in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. Both men shared a love for the outdoors and a commitment to serving others. As we remember Jesse and Reis, we are praying for strength and comfort for their families, friends, and all who knew them during this challenging time.
Until next week, if you need casework assistance or would like to share your opinion with us, please reach out to our office here.
Sincerely,
