I Moved In With My 96-Year-Old Grandmother After My Divorce ([link removed])

This week, we’re tackling a big topic at Scary Mommy: The Sandwich Generation. How many of you are stuck in the middle, caring for young kids and aging relatives at once? It’s a very common experience, and we want to talk about it. First up: we have a lovely piece by writer Becky Vieira about how she moved in with her 96-year-old grandmother after she got divorced.

“I’d always been close with her. She gave me multiple perms when I was in elementary school and wanted curly hair, she let us eat dinner off TV trays while we watched Wheel of Fortune, and when my first grade class was assigned to bring our favorite thing to show and tell, my classmates brought stuffed animals and toys while I marched my grandmother into class,” she writes.

And now she’s talking about how that experience has shaped the rest of her life.
