Dear John,

Are you OK with higher streaming bills to bail out mainstream media and other government-approved content creators?

That’s exactly what’s going to happen if Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s streaming tax gets implemented.

Streaming providers like Netflix, Spotify, YouTube and Apple Music are going to have to pay $200 million annually so the Trudeau government can fund its favourite special interest groups.

The Trudeau government is telling taxpayers not to worry because the companies, not subscribers, will pay this new tax.

But you know that’s hogwash.

And the prime minister knows it’s hogwash too. He said so when he was asked about the NDP push on a tax like this a few years ago.

“The NDP is claiming that Netflix and other web giants are the ones who will pay these new taxes,” said Trudeau. “The reality is that taxpayers will be the ones to pay those taxes.”

Higher taxes on companies means higher prices for subscribers. It’s that simple.

But there is some good news.

This new tax isn’t going to be implemented until September. So you still have time to fight back.

The best way to stop the streaming tax is to join the army fighting it.

WILL YOU SIGN THIS PETITION?

To Prime Minister Justin Trudeau:

Stop hiking taxes!

Canadians can’t afford to pay more to stream our favourite music, movies and TV shows.

We, the undersigned, call on the government to scrap the Streaming Tax.
