Joe Biden’s Department of Injustice is at it again.
As you may know, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland defied lawful congressional subpoenas requesting the audio recordings of President Biden’s interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur. If you recall, this was part of the DOJ’s investigation into Biden’s mishandling of classified documents.
Earlier this year, Hur released a bombshell report following his months-long investigation. Despite evidence that Biden mishandled sensitive, classified documents, Hur declined to recommend criminal charges against the President, noting: "We have also considered that, at trial, Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory." According to Special Counsel Hur, Biden couldn’t remember key details during interviews with investigators, including when he was vice president or when his son Beau died.
While the transcript of the Biden-Hur interview became public a few weeks after this startling report, House Republicans have sought the accompanying audio tapes. After all, the audio recordings would provide the best evidence of what was truly said during the interview. Transcripts cannot capture pauses, tone, inflection, and other cues that convey important context and meaning.
Therefore, the House Oversight and Judiciary Committees subpoenaed AG Garland for the audio files related to Special Counsel Hur’s interview with President Biden. The White House ridiculously asserted executive privilege over the recordings.
This begs the question: What is Joe Biden trying to hide?
Folks, it’s up to Congress – not the Executive Branch – to determine what materials it needs to conduct congressional investigations. Furthermore, it’s ludicrous for Biden to exert executive privilege over interview materials related to the DOJ’s investigation into his criminal misconduct – especially after the White House released the Biden-Hur transcript to the press.
Thankfully, House Republicans are delivering accountability to the American people.
Last week, we voted to hold U.S. Attorney Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress for defying lawful subpoenas requesting audio recordings of President Biden’s interview with Special Counsel Hur. I proudly voted for this resolution, as I believe it’s past time the House took action against AG Garland for repeatedly refusing to hand over these potentially damning audio tapes.
As expected, the DOJ announced on Friday that it will not prosecute Garland.
This entire saga perfectly demonstrates how the DOJ is the Department of Double Standards.
Both Peter Navarro and Steve Bannon refused to comply with illegitimate congressional subpoenas from the sham January 6th “Committee.” Navarro is currently serving a four month sentence, and Bannon has been ordered to report to prison on July 1st. Meanwhile, AG Garland refused to comply with a legitimate, lawful congressional subpoena – yet will receive no punishment.
Clearly, Joe Biden’s DOJ has been weaponized to protect his political allies and persecute his political foes. It’s imperative that we dismantle our nation’s two-tiered system of justice before it’s too late.
