The crisis at the southern border IS NOT a partisan issue and it’s not a geographical issue either.
Tragically, Marylanders know this all too well.
Earlier this week, a violent criminal who crossed over our southern border was arrested for the horrific murder of a 37-year-old mom of five in Harford County, Maryland.
What’s happening is horrific, and we cannot stand idly by.
The terror at the border doesn’t stop at the border. It floods into our streets, it haunts our neighborhoods, and tragically, it takes innocent lives.
The longer we wait, the worse it gets.
We see it in our communities here in Maryland, and we see it across the country.
Just last week, eight suspected terrorists with possible ties to ISIS were arrested in New York, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles–thousands of miles from the southern border.
All of them crossed through the southern border into the U.S., and all of their background checks came back clean when they crossed.
Gov. Hogan knows this is unacceptable. We CANNOT allow the border crisis to continue unabated. Lives are at stake.
Instead of our politicians playing more partisan political games, action must be taken NOW before the crisis worsens even more.
Leaders in both parties need to come together and get the job done. That won’t happen if we keep sending partisan politicians to Congress.
Earlier this year, when Gov. Hogan saw a bipartisan compromise that would have helped secure the border fail because of politics, he decided he needed to step up and do something about it by running for the Senate.
For far too long, Washington politicians have cared more about keeping the border a campaign issue than finding actual solutions.
Gov. Hogan shares the frustration of tens of thousands of Marylanders who waited years to come to our country legally and are now wondering why millions of migrants can break the law and stay.
This is far bigger than the failures of one president or one Congress. The failures are decades in the making. Of course, we can and should also fix the broken immigration system. There are countless issues that must be addressed, but we are sick and tired of the gridlock and the partisan nonsense.
From deep-blue Maryland to blazing-red Texas, Americans are demanding Washington finally take action. It’s time politicians stopped trying to score political points and started recognizing the urgent need for bipartisan, commonsense solutions.
When I launched my campaign for the U.S. Senate, I did so with a deep resolve to maintain the leadership style and principles that guided me during my eight years as governor.
Fifty years ago, my father, Maryland Congressman Larry Hogan Sr. made a tough decision. He became the first Republican to come out for the impeachment of President Nixon. He put aside party politics and his own personal considerations and stepped up to do the right thing for Maryland and the nation.
