Together, we can better support LGBTQ caregivers and care recipients.

Hi John,

My name is Zander, and I hold many identities like so many of us do: I am a trans man, a Veteran, and a former caregiver to my father who passed as a result of vascular dementia in 2024.

I also co-founded the LGBTQ Caregiver Center, a national resource center for LGBTQ caregivers. The care journey can often be more complicated for LGBTQ caregivers given the challenges many of us face.

That’s why I’m co-hosting a training with Caring Across Generations on being an LGBTQ caregiver and providing care to someone who is LGBTQ. We’ll be talking about caregiving in the LGBTQ community, care resources, and best practices for fostering inclusion for all caregivers and care recipients.

Join us for this important training on June 24 at 4pm PT/7PM ET. RSVP now.

As a trans man who medically transitioned at 39, my father knew me as his daughter for many more years than as his son, so eventually, as his dementia progressed, he began to forget that I transitioned and no longer recognized me.

This was difficult for so many reasons, and I began to look for resources or stories about other trans people who had to navigate being forgotten twice – first as his son, and then as his daughter.

I couldn’t find any stories like mine, so I decided to start my own resource center and help educate fellow LGBTQ caregivers and others navigating this often delicate and complicated terrain.

Trainings like this one are so important, not only for LGBTQ people, but for everyone who cares for someone else. This training is not just for LGBTQ caregivers – it’s for anyone who loves or wants to advocate for LGBTQ caregivers or care recipients.

I know this training will be invaluable for all caregivers – RSVP now.

A training like this one would’ve helped me tremendously when I was navigating the caregiving journey with my father. I hope this training will help make you feel more seen, educated, validated, and informed. I’m excited to learn with you all soon.

In Pride and solidarity,
