• According to The Guttmacher Institute, despite the rise in abortion bans, the number of abortions actually increased in 2023, the first full year following the fall of Roe. “This increase demonstrates that women continue to seek and obtain abortion care despite the drastic reduction in abortion access in many states.” We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: banning abortion does not stop abortions. It only stops safe abortions.

• According to NBC News, a study estimated that, since abortion bans were put into place, “nearly 520,000 rapes were associated with 64,565 pregnancies across 14 states, most of which had no exceptions that allowed for terminations of pregnancies that occurred as a result of rape.”

• Texas saw the highest numbers, which, according to the Houston Chronicle, had over 26,000 “rape-related pregnancies during the 16 months after the state outlawed all abortions, with no exceptions for survivors of rape or incest.”

Women everywhere, but especially in red states, aren’t just being left behind – they’re being targeted. We’ve conducted a deep analysis of the political landscape in many of the states with abortion bans and found that if more resources were dedicated to helping pro-choice women get elected in red states, it would be possible to get these laws changed, but we need your help.
