Washington, D.C. (June 18, 2024) – The Biden administration has unveiled a new Parole in Place (PIP) de facto amnesty program for illegal aliens married to U.S. citizens.
Main takeaways:
- DHS estimates 550,000 will benefit, receiving work permits, Social Security numbers, and access to green cards and eventual citizenship.
- The program is yet another example of presidential abuse of the narrow parole authority to legalize large numbers of illegal aliens.
- This is a shortcut around the existing waiver process for illegal-alien spouses of U.S. citizens.
- USCIS does not have the bandwidth to take more than a cursory glance at half a million new applications, virtually guaranteeing fraud.
- U.S. citizens applying to bring their foreign spouses to the U.S. legally will experience even more delays.
Andrew Arthur, the Center’s Fellow in Law and Policy, writes, “Any system in which illegal entrants are rewarded to the detriment of foreign nationals doing it ‘the right way’ is a bad one, and that is what the administration is setting up. Expect more than a fair share of fraud that overwhelmed USCIS adjudicators won’t be able to stop, too.”
Arthur concludes, "Parole in Place for alien spouses is just the beginning, and the vanguard of a much larger amnesty.”
