Where does NYS stand on lead poisoning prevention policy at the end of the legislative session?

It's not unusual for New York’s Legislative Sessions to end with a little chaos. This year, some of the last minute chaos stemmed from Governor Hochul’s unexpected pause on the June 30th implementation of landmark, but controversial, congestion pricing ([link removed]) in New York City. This both surprised and distracted Albany's policy-makers.

Despite the chaos, lead poisoning prevention advocates got a small win when the Assembly passed the Lead Paint Right to Know Act (A4820A ([link removed]) ). Advocates were also pleased to see Assemblymember Bronson advancing his Renovation, Repair and Painting Bill (A434A) ([link removed]) out of the Labor Committee. Unfortunately, in the end, the Senate failed to follow the Assembly’s lead and did not move either bill this year.

As we look ahead to the 2025 legislative session, the Coalition continues to engage with, Lead Free Kids NY ([link removed]) , who are already busy reevaluating and updating their advocacy strategy. Stay tuned for more on how you can get involved to protect NY's children from lead next year.
