Actions for the week of June 17, 2024
Hello Activists!
Summer is fast approaching, along with a heat wave, so make sure to stay hydrated. It's only going to get hotter unless we rise up and fight for our climate! Here are three easy ways to start.
Action 1
🚰🚫🤑 Stop Water Privatization in Your Community
Across the country, private companies are swooping in to buy local water and sewer systems from the governments that own them. Then they jack up the prices—forcing normal people to pay higher rates not just for the water that comes out of their faucets, but even the water that comes out of their toilets.
In states where water privatization is already possible, those bills need to be repealed. And in states where it isn’t yet possible, our governors must hear that we do NOT want water privatization!
Sign the petition to stop water privatization.
Action 2
🚢⛓️💥🌍 Help pro-climate companies LEAVE the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and LEAD on climate policy
Many iconic companies, like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft publicly support ambitious climate policy. But they’re also members of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, a trade organization that has spent years and millions of dollars lobbying against climate progress. Pro-climate companies have the opportunity to leave the Chamber and lead the way with strong advocacy for climate policy.
We need to defend the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and pass new climate policies to have a chance at curbing the potentially catastrophic effects of climate change, so sign on! There are more ways to take action on the website if you’re feeling fired up!
Action 3
🌡️🏦🙅♀️ Call Citi: We’ve Reached the Boiling Point!
Kicking off the Summer of Heat campaign, activists are engaging in nonviolent civil disobedience in order to disrupt Citibank HQ, which is making profit off of destroying the planet. Please join in supporting the activists on the ground today by making a call to Citi executives — a script is provided — all you have to do is make the call.
If no one answers, please leave a voicemail! Together we can show big business that they cannot destroy our climate on our dime!
