MADISON, Wis. ? The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) today announced that the first annual Invasive Species Awareness Day will take place across Wisconsin State Park properties on Saturday, June 22, 2024.
Several events will be held throughout the state to bring awareness to the impact of invasive species on our natural resources.
Invasive Species Awareness Day events will include guided hikes, education programs, fieldwork to remove invasive species and a 5k run/walk. These events offer activities for participants of all ages. Visitors will learn important techniques and skills for slowing the spread of invasive species and applying these practices at their own homes or properties.
Volunteers attending fieldwork events are encouraged to wear gloves, closed-toed shoes, long sleeves and pants that can get dirty. Most events will take place outdoors, so attendees are reminded to bring plenty of sunscreen and water; water refill stations may be available at some events.
