Dear Ward 8 Residents,

Mayor Muriel Bowser made the call to extend the public health emergency for the District through May 15, 2020, as we continue to fight the spread of coronavirus.

Due to the sudden changes to our nation and the world, I am committed to reaching residents during this time of need. On Friday, April 17th at 12:00 noon, I will host a virtual roundtable session on Facebook and Instagram Live to speak about the changes in education since the public health emergency. I want to hear your feedback on distance learning, access to internet, device and technology used at home and other related concerns while coming up with strategies to learn at home.

I understand this is not easy. Please continue to take care of yourself and your families as we will get through this one day at a time.

Stay home and stay safe.

Regards,

Trayon White, Sr.
Councilmember, Ward 8

Mayor Bowser Extends Public Health Emergency, Stay at Home Order, and Closure of Non-Essential Businesses Through May 15

(Washington, DC) – Mayor Muriel Bowser issued Mayor’s Order 2020-063 to extend the state of emergency and public health emergency for Washington, DC through May 15, 2020, as the District continues to fight the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

The Mayor extended the emergencies and issued new health and safety requirements in an effort to protect vulnerable populations during the COVID-19 public health emergency. The new order clarifies that face masks are required for:

  • hotel workers, guests, and visitors;
  • individuals using taxis, ride shares, private transportation providers;
  • workers and customers of food sellers; and
  • strongly encouraged for workers and individuals using public transit.

Individuals living, working, and visiting Washington, DC should continue to stay at home, only leaving for essential purposes. If leaving their residence, all individuals must continue to social distance from others not in their household, and should wear face coverings if visiting essential businesses, such as grocery stores and pharmacies. Masks are not a replacement for social distancing. Non-essential businesses remain closed, and DC students will continue to learn at home.

The Mayor’s order can be found here.
