Better Transport Week is an annual celebration of the transport that makes our lives better!
Sustainable transport does amazing things. It shrinks traffic jams, cleans up our air and tackles climate change. It improves our health and boosts our economy. It connects us to the things that matter.
Get involved this week by:
- leaving the car at home
- exploring your local area on foot or by bike
- using our fantastic buses, trams or trains
It's also Clean Air Day on 20 June! Did you know
Cars and vans are the biggest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and some types of air pollution in the UK, harming both our health and the planet. If more of us were able to walk, wheel, cycle or use public transport, it would make the air cleaner for us all and help to protect our health and the planet:
- If everyone switched just one car journey a month for a bus trip, there would be a billion fewer car journeys each year.
- If 50% of short journeys in towns and cities were walked or cycled, we could save enough carbon to power every home in Manchester, Bristol or Liverpool with electricity.
- Taking the train also produces nearly 80% less carbon emissions than driving, helping to protect the environment.
The Victoria Embankment has gained 430 metres of new beautifully smooth path to improve connectivity for cyclists, walkers and wheelers between the city centre, Meadows and the Suspension Bridge through the Embankment.
For cyclists, we've also added new cycle parking outside the café for those wanting to enjoy spending time along the River Trent.
These special editions created by the Nottingham Community and Voluntary Service for the Travel Well project are all about unleashing the active traveller in you.
The books will help you to connect with friendly, community-based teams and activities promoting walking, cycling, and wheeling.

Works have now begun to add 170m of protected 2-way cycleway on Mansfield Road, running from the Goose Fair roundabout to Pelham Avenue. An improved footway will also run alongside this cycleway.
- During these works, travel through the area may be delayed. Please plan your journey and allow extra time
- Full bus service will be retained for the duration of the works- but please note that temporary bus stop flags will be used from 21st June for northbound bus services in the area of the works (bus stops: FO04, FO31 and FOT1)
- Three bus stop will be consolidated into two after completion of the works. Please note, there will be no changes to which services operate from these stops
