“We celebrate the recent decriminalization wins, but we are not stopping until all countries in the region and world live up to the promise of including and respecting all of us.”
John, this quote by Kenita Placide (they/them), the Executive Director of the Eastern Caribbean Alliance for Diversity & Equality – an Outright grant partner – reminds me why we celebrate Pride Month and underscores the importance of the work we do together all year long.
That’s why I’m reaching out today with this special opportunity.
Please donate to Outright International today, and a generous donor will match your gift, instantly doubling its impact. And THAT will help Outright partner with local LGBTIQ groups fighting discriminatory laws and attitudes across the globe.
Take Outright and our partners' work in the Caribbean, for example. In a spectacular series of court victories since 2022, four countries — Antigua & Barbuda, St. Kitts & Nevis, Barbados, and Dominica — struck down colonial-era sodomy laws criminalizing same-sex relations. This marked a significant step forward in the region in the fight to end discrimination.
But despite decriminalization, transgender people remain particularly vulnerable because there is no mechanism for legal gender recognition in Antigua & Barbuda. There are also no explicit anti-discrimination protections for LGBTIQ people…a reminder that the fight is not over.
That is why your support is so urgently needed. So please join our 2024 Pride Matching Gift Challenge and double your impact today!
Thanks to people like you, LGBTIQ partners in the Caribbean have developed and grown in visibility in recent years, working toward greater social protections — like facilitating LGBTIQ sensitivity training for police and service providers. But the work is not done!
