Louisiana continues to pass election laws that could harm voters
* Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry (R) signed ([link removed]) two bills into law to require documentary proof of citizenship to register to vote and establish procedures to purge voters from the state's registration lists.
* These bills, along with seven others signed last month, are part of the “Department of State’s Election Integrity Legislative Package,” according to Louisiana Secretary of State Nancy Landry (R).
Arizona court thwarts attempt to challenge the 2022 election results
* In a win for voters, an Arizona appeals court dismissed ([link removed]) lawsuits trying to overturn the state's 2022 midterm election results. A lower court issued sanctions against failed GOP attorney general candidate Abe Hamadeh and others for bringing "bad faith" cases.
Groups in Wisconsin and California fight for accessibility for voters with disabilities
* In lawsuits out of Wisconsin and California, pro-voting groups are pushing for people with disabilities to have access to electronic absentee voting ahead of the 2024 election.
* Under Wisconsin’s current system, voters can’t receive, mark or return absentee ballots electronically unless they are in the military or overseas. In California, voters with print disabilities can fill out their ballots electronically but can’t submit them online. Both states have hearings on the issue on June 24. Read more here. Wisconsin Supreme Court will have a pivotal election next year
* Ideological control of the Wisconsin Supreme Court will once again be up for grabs next year as one of the court's liberal justices announced ([link removed]) she is set to retire at the end of the term.
* The court currently has a 4-3 liberal majority, and whoever wins the April 1, 2025 election will serve a 10-year term.
