Severe weather outlook for Houston, TX.

June 17, 2024
Dear John xxxxxx,

I'm writing to let you know that the our local weather casters are closely monitoring the tropical weather in the Gulf of Mexico that is showing signs of strengthening into a tropical depression or tropical storm. This weather system is moving northwest toward the Gulf Coast, with Houston likely to feel the impacts within the next 24 to 48 hours. Now is the moment to prepare, check on your neighbors, and ensure your family and friends are ready. Together, we'll weather this storm and come out stronger!

Get Prepared!
Residents in the Houston area are advised to take the following precautions:
Emergency Kits: Ensure you have an emergency kit with essential supplies including water, non-perishable food, medications, batteries, and a first aid kit.
Property: Secure outdoor items that could become projectiles in high winds.
Evacuation Plan: Familiarize yourself with local evacuation routes and have a plan in place in case an evacuation order is issued.
Stay Informed: Keep updated with the latest weather forecasts and advisories from the National Weather Service and local authorities.

Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are anticipated over the next couple of days, with projections of 5-8 inches. Locally higher amounts are possible according to the NWS Forecast Office for Houston/Galveston, TX. Gusty winds could cause power outages and damage to structures, especially those that are not well secured.
