Dear Green American, Target claims to be a socially responsible and sustainable brand – so why aren’t they doing more to protect bees and other pollinators from toxic pesticides?! We’re in the middle of an insect apocalypse. 40% of pollinator species face extinction, and this is fueled by toxic pesticides like neonicotinoids. Pollinators are responsible for 1 in 3 bites of food we eat, including favorite crops such as apples, cherries, and tomatoes. Toxic pesticides threaten pollinators and the stability of our food supply. On top of that, they’re harmful to human health – especially for children and for farmworkers and rural communities on the frontlines of exposure. Target is lagging behind on pesticides compared to Walmart, Kroger, Whole Foods, and Giant Eagle. It’s past time for Target to take action. Help us push Target to protect people and pollinators by making real, timebound commitments to phase out toxic pesticides! |
