Friend,
The Farm Bill has started to move through Congress with the House Agriculture Committee passing their version that contains dangerous language attempting to “fix” Prop 12. But this language is really just a hand-out to giant multinational pork producers that want to keep farm animals locked in cruel and extreme confinement.
We urgently need your help to stop this bill from advancing any further and unleashing a wave of unbearable suffering that could impact millions of animals. Will you make a donation of $20 or more to the Humane Society Legislative Fund today so we have the resources we need to fight back against any language in the Farm Bill that seeks to nullify crucial state animal protection laws, like Prop 12. and continue our work to protect all animals from harm?
Here is just a glimpse of what could happen if the partisan House version of the Farm Bill succeeds:
- Crucial state-level farm animal welfare protections could be nullified. These laws, that we’ve worked for years to pass, ban the sale of products derived from the cruelest confinement conditions, including gestation crates—metal bar cages that are so small, mother pigs can't even turn around.
- Hundreds of other state and local agricultural laws, including those covering food safety, disease prevention, environmental protection and labor standards, are also at risk of being wiped out.
- And it clearly ignores the will of the people who have signaled time and again their support for stronger state-level animal welfare standards and the associated public health benefits.
With the stakes so high, we can’t afford to let the House version of the Farm Bill advance any further. In addition to destroying much of our progress for farm animals, every other battle we fight at the state level would become even harder.
But we’re up against highly-paid lobbyists who care more about the bottom lines of giant multinational meat producers than treating animals more humanely. That means we must meet our $30,000 quarterly fundraising goal by midnight, June 30 to stay in this fight and, more importantly, win.
Please, as a committed advocate for animals, make a donation to HSLF now to help us stop this inhumane policy in its tracks and fight to protect animals nationwide.
