John –
In a
tweet last week, the Minnesota Parents Alliance, our far-right opposition, called out social studies teachers for lessons about how slavery influenced our Constitution.
I guess they missed the parts of the Constitution amended out after the civil war. From the three-fifths compromise, to the fugitive slave clause, to the prohibition on banning the importation of slaves, the Constitution was explicit in regulating slavery in the United States.
Ignoring this history isn't just “anti-woke”, it stops kids from understanding the complex underpinnings of our country.
The School Board Integrity Project is all about protecting students' freedom to learn, and that means protecting curriculum from regressive school boards trying to whitewash history.
With hundreds of school board seats up for grabs across the state this year, we are fighting to protect education. And we need your help.
Thank you,
Erin Heers-McArdle
