Friend ,
As some states begin releasing COVID-19 outcomes by race, we’re learning that the virus is disproportionately taking Black lives.
The disparity is attributed to many factors, including the reality that African Americans are more likely to fill essential jobs that prohibit them from working from home; they are more likely to live in areas impacted by environmental pollutants that cause health issues; and they are less likely to have health insurance.
Unfortunately, Republicans do not seem motivated to address these issues – and that’s especially true when it comes to healthcare. The President refused to reopen Obamacare enrollment in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. The Trump administration is also moving forward with its push to end the Affordable Care Act. And, Republicans continue to refuse to expand Medicaid.
This tragedy has underscored our current government’s inability to fulfill its most basic function -- to protect and serve the citizens of this country. And the cost of this failure is the loss of lives, especially Black lives. It's a shameful failure, and it makes me sick.
Over a decade ago, I started a business here in Georgia to provide healthcare to families, small businesses, and union members because I believe that healthcare is a human right. Now, I’m the Democratic frontrunner running for U.S. Senate to make sure we deliver healthcare coverage to everyone, regardless of race or class.
Will you donate right now to help us flip Georgia and the U.S. Senate blue so we can finally make progress on healthcare?
