Hi John, my name is Zaki, and I'm writing to you with an
important update regarding 350's work on the East African Crude Oil
Pipeline (EACOP):

Climate activists in East Africa who are opposing EACOP are facing an
extreme escalation in harassment.

In the past few weeks, multiple Tanzanian and Ugandan activists and
community members have been bullied, arrested, and interrogated for trying
to stop this carbon bomb.

But the stakes are too high to let this intimidation stop us from calling
for an end to EACOP. Because if built, EACOP would be the world's largest
heated crude oil pipeline — burning six billion barrels of oil and
generating over 34 million extra tons of carbon emissions each year.^1 Its
disastrous climate impact would be felt all over the world.

[ [link removed] ]So before I explain more, can you add your name to stand with climate
activists in East Africa, stop EACOP, and take down the fossil fuel
industry?

As a global climate justice organization, 350.org is committed to fighting
fossil fuel extraction all over the world. Our staff team in Africa has
spent years working with grassroots groups to stop the East African Crude
Oil Pipeline (EACOP). The demand is clear: a complete stop to the
destructive EACOP project.

Instead of fossil fuel expansion and natural disasters, East African
communities are ready for restorative justice, reparations, and
democratized renewable energy systems.

But when they stand up to demand a better future, they are met with
suppression.

It's infuriating. This destructive pipeline project is planned to rip
right through the heart of East Africa, where it would not only have a
devastating effect on the climate, but also pose a severe threat to some
of the world's most important biodiversity hotspots, and risk
contaminating the Lake Victoria basin. An oil spill here would be
catastrophic for over 40 million people who depend on this lake.

It's not too late to stop this destruction.

The campaign to stop EACOP is constantly escalating the pressure on
supporters and financiers of the pipeline. So far, 27 major banks and 29
major (re)insurers have ruled out or retracted their support.^2

The fossil fuel industry and their political allies are desperately
fighting back. But we can't be silenced. We will continue doing everything
we can to stop the EACOP pipeline, but we can't do it without
you, John.

against the East African Crude Oil Pipeline and help the transition to
just energy all over the world?

We're up against powerful oil corporations, but while they have the money,
we have the people — and together, we can win.

Thank you for being a part of this global fight,

Zaki Mamdoo
