June is recognized as Gun Violence Awareness Month to raise awareness about one of the deadliest public health crises our nation faces and the policies we can implement to address it.

Each day, I think of the many families, victims, survivors, and communities who have needlessly suffered or had their lives irrevocably changed by gun violence.

I am also feeling more focused than ever to not only keep CT-05 blue but to flip the House majority so that we can get back to common sense solutions to solve this crisis.

As the representative for CT-05, I have championed gun violence prevention. The senseless attacks on schools, churches, movie theaters, and public celebrations demonstrate the moral necessity to ensure no other community joins the list of those ravaged by preventable violence.

My first resolution in Congress was to prohibit the use of federal funds to arm teachers. As the Deputy Whip on the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, I am tasked with rallying my colleagues around bipartisan legislation like the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, to implement universal background checks for all gun purchases.

The last time we had a Democratic majority in the House of Representatives, we passed the first federal gun safety legislation in three decades — expanding background checks for buyers under 21, funding state crisis intervention, and red flag programs, and partially closing the boyfriend loophole. But we need to do more.

The MAGA majority and their NRA backers pour money and resources into blocking any action. That is why your donation — especially today — is so important.
