Donald Trump visited Detroit on Saturday, a city he once called a "living hell," and staged a surprise "roundtable" at 180 Church, a predominately Black congregation on the city’s outskirts. While the event was ostensibly about issues facing Black voters, and some Black pro-Trump personalities like Peezy and Icewear Vezzo showed up, social media lit up at footage showing the pews packed with...white crowds. "It’s all lies, smoke, and mirrors," Jeff Timmer, a senior adviser for the anti-Trump Lincoln Project, wrote on X. Axios reporter Sam Robinson said much of the "roundtable" featured Trump talking to the crowd, largely about opposing LGBTQ causes.

Embattled Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dissolved the Israeli war cabinet that had been overseeing the brutal conflict in Gaza, rebuffing his far-right allies who had been seeking seats, and apparently moving to solidify his grasp on decision-making over the fighting with Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah across the Lebanese border. The disbanding of the war cabinet was confirmed by Israeli officials briefing anonymously, against a backdrop of mounting discontent over the conduct of the war in Gaza, which has claimed the lives of more than 37,000 Palestinians, and calls from anti-government groups for a week of daily protests. In the immediate aftermath of the dissolution of the war cabinet, the Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth speculated that some key decisions would now go to an expanded cabinet, sometimes numbering 50 participants, where even more hawkish voices dominate, giving Netanyahu more political cover for the continuing deadly conflict.

Surgeon General Dr. Vivek H. Murthy called for social media platforms to be required to issue regular notifications to users warning of the product’s potential to harm mental health, in an idea modeled on the effectiveness of tobacco packaging health warnings. Dr. Murthy called for immediate action in a New York Times editorial published Monday and blamed social media as a major contributor to the emergency mental health crisis among young people. "Adolescents who spend more than three hours a day on social media face double the risk of anxiety and depression symptoms, and the average daily use in this age group, as of the summer of 2023, was 4.8 hours," the surgeon general wrote. "While the platforms claim they are making their products safer, Americans need more than words. We need proof… One of the worst things for a parent is to know your children are in danger yet be unable to do anything about it. That is how parents tell me they feel when it comes to social media — helpless and alone in the face of toxic content and hidden harms."

GOP senator hit with brutal fact-check after ad about family’s IVF
Sen. Rick Scott released a campaign ad touting his support for in vitro fertilization on Friday — less than 24 hours after voting against the Right to IVF Act, a point hammered home by nüTwitter's swift Community Notes system. In the ad, the Florida MAGA man mentions that his youngest daughter is receiving IVF treatments and that "she and I both agree IVF must be protected." While Rick and his daughter may "agree IVF must be protected," the Trump loyalist and his Republican colleagues clearly have a very different song to sing in Congress. On Friday, Scott joined 47 Republican senators who voted against the Right to IVF Act, calling the move to guarantee women the right to access in vitro fertilization nothing more than a political stunt. The effort to codify access to IVF and contraception comes ahead of an increasingly fraught general election season where Republicans are saying one thing and doing something altogether very different. The Southern Baptist Convention — the largest Protestant denomination in the United States — voted to oppose IVF on Tuesday, with none other than Donald Trump ramping up support for their cause. Texas megachurch pastor and Trump spiritual adviser molested woman for years starting when she was 12 years old
Gateway Church pastor Robert Morris, who Donald Trump has called a spiritual adviser, admitted to sexually abusing a girl in his congregation for years, beginning in 1982 when she was 12 years old. True to form, the predator tried to downplay the incident with this incredibly offensive statement, distancing and disassociating himself from his crimes: "It was kissing and petting and not intercourse, but it was wrong. In March of 1987, this situation was brought to light, and it was confessed and repented of. I submitted myself to the Elders of Shady Grove Church and the young lady's father. They asked me to stop out of ministry and receive counseling and freedom ministry, which I did. Since that time, I have walked in purity and accountability in this area." Morris' victim, Cindy Clemshire, recounted in disturbing detail the actual severity of the abuse, which is not for the faint of heart. On Christmas in 1982, Morris asked 12-year-old Cindy into his room and groped her breasts and genitalia, she said. The sexual contact escalated to rape by instrumentation over the following five years. Morris returned to the pulpit in 1989 after two years of counseling. He says he resumed preaching with Clemshire's father's blessing, but she says that did not happen. Gateway Church leaders have defended Morris and claim he took "the proper Biblical steps" in his "lengthy restoration process." Got it.
