Fieldays round-up

Fieldays 2024 was another huge showing for our rural sector, and the mighty Waikato even provided us with a few days of dry winter weather.

From the mammoth companies right through to grass roots community groups, Fieldays proves every year to be the biggest event for New Zealand to acknowledge and celebrate our iconic rural industry.

New Zealand First welcomed announcements made throughout the week that show the true value we need to place on New Zealand’s export-producing powerhouse.

The Government has removed agriculture from the Emissions Trading Scheme, welcome news to farmers throughout New Zealand as they flooded into Mystery Creek at the start of Fieldays.

New Zealand First also secured in our coalition agreement, a Select Committee Inquiry into banking competition and we are thrilled with the confirmation of this going ahead. It will include a specific focus on rural banking - rural business owners must be assured they are getting a good deal from our Banks.

Fieldays launched a new rural advocacy hub at this year’s event, and this is where Rural Communities Minister and New Zealand First MP Mark Patterson announced the Government’s increased investment into the wellbeing of rural workers.

The Rural Support Trust is set to receive an additional $250,000 dollars this financial year from the Ministry of Primary Industries, and Mark mentioned that he would be investigating  how successful programs such as this could receive more consistent support going forward.

We know that farmers been doing it tough, along with many other businesses in the wider sector, and the team was happy to be out and about seeing so many people from all over the country in good spirits at Mystery Creek.

Mark was on The Country earlier today talking all things Fieldays and about the wool industry:

This government has changed gears - we are moving forward again.

We are prioritising the success of our biggest export industry to secure a brighter future for the New Zealand economy.
