Our Revolution fought hard to support my successful run for
district attorney in San Francisco, and have stood by me as I've
started the vital work of transforming our criminal justice
system.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, I took action to reduce
the jail population by 40% to prevent an outbreak in a place
where following social distancing recommendations is impossible
with full occupancy.

My 75-year-old father is currently in prison in New York State,
and I continue to fear for him and other vulnerable incarcerated
people. That's why it's so important that Our Revolution has the
resources they need to elect more district attorneys like me who
will fight for criminal justice reform.

Our Revolution is carrying out Bernie's vision that change
happens from the bottom up, not from top-down. In San Francisco
and other cities across American, they are building progressive
powerhouses and mobilizing members to do the essential grassroots
activism necessary to win elections.

As District Attorney, I have been supported by and listened to
grassroots activists, and have done everything in my power to
address their concerns.

I have been guided by the idea that public safety begins with
ending harmful mass incarceration and breaking cycles of
recidivism by focusing on rehabilitation.

To make this a reality, I have ended cash bail, a backward
system that unfairly penalizes the poor, and I continue to do
everything in my power to stop the prosecutorial racial
disparities that over-criminalize young people of color.

San Franciscans, and Americans everywhere, will benefit from an
enforcement policy that targets the truly violent and destructive
crime that threatens our communities -- not from a policy that
wastes time and resources on prosecuting low-level, victimless
offenses.
