In honor of Palestinian Prisoners Day, April 17, join the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs and Middle East Books for a discussion with Dr. Ramzy Baroud on his most recent book, These Chains Will Be Broken: Palestinian Stories of Struggle and Defiance in Israeli Prisons.
Tune in at 3:00pm EST TODAY ([link removed])
His book, published in January by Clarity Press, and available from Middle East Books and More ([link removed]) , is essential reading since more than 5,000 Palestinian political prisoners are incarcerated during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. In any prison, practicing social distancing is nearly impossible. In Israeli prisons conditions are much worse ([link removed]) than those in the U.S., many of which are slowly releasing prisoners.
Dr. Baroud will tell us about those conditions and some of the individuals whose stories he documented in his book—men, women and children who stood up for their rights or just happened to be in the wrong place. They found themselves trapped for months or decades awaiting justice. He’ll talk about how listeners, many of us U.S. taxpayers whose dollars contribute massive aid to Israel, can help free these prisoners before they contract COVID-19 and face a death sentence.
Dr. Baroud is a U.S.-Palestinian journalist, media consultant, author, columnist and editor of Palestine Chronicle ([link removed]) . He is a former managing editor of Middle East Eye and former deputy managing editor of Al Jazeera online. The Washington Report prints many of Ramzy Baroud’s internationally syndicated columns in our magazine. His most recent article is “Spreading the Virus of Occupation: Spitting as a Weapon in the Hand of Colonial Israel.” ([link removed])
