John,
The very existence of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) is under attack and Mississippi is ground zero for the growing danger.
State Senate Bill 2726, proposed by Republican State Senator John Polk, would force the closure of Alcorn State University, Jackson State University, and Mississippi Valley State University -- all of the state's public HBCUs.
These institutions have been pillars of their communities for generations, providing accessible, high-quality education to students who almost always otherwise do not have the opportunity to pursue higher education.
The impact of these closures would be nothing short of catastrophic. Thousands of students would be left without access to the transformative power of an HBCU education, erasing decades of academic and cultural legacy.
We must step up to take on the right-wing extremists working to dismantle these institutions and deny future generations the opportunities they deserve. Save HBCUs! Show your support by signing on now!
We cannot allow shortsighted, racist politicians and their budget cuts to destroy the future of higher education for Black students.
The ripple effects would be felt throughout the country, as these institutions have long been engines of social mobility and economic empowerment for Black communities nationwide. From civil rights leaders to scientists, artists, and entrepreneurs, HBCU alumni have shaped the very fabric of our nation for decades.
HBCUs deserve support and resources to continue their vital mission of educating and uplifting students from diverse backgrounds, not attacks from racist extremists looking to deny Black students access to higher education.
Take action now to protect HBCUs and commit to fully funding these essential institutions.
Together, we can build a movement to protect HBCUs and ensure that they can continue to transform lives for generations to come.
