John, As I've said before, I am more motivated than ever to run for office at this moment in time. I am compelled because of this pandemic, not despite it. This public health crisis has transformed the way we campaign. We are using our resources to reach out to neighbors to see what they need during this time. The stories we are hearing are heartbreaking. We've had more than one person tell us they are hospitalized with COVID-19 or they've just returned from the hospital. Some have told us they're sick and they're seeing their neighbors are dying from it, especially from folks living in nursing homes where there is a lack of personal protective equipment for staff. I've spoken to a single mom working on the frontlines who struggles every day to find care for her 6-year-old. Many people have told us stories about banks trying to profit off this pandemic by refusing to defer payments or waive interest. A woman lost her aunt, and then could not locate her body because the morgues were overwhelmed. Postal workers are not being properly protected as front line workers. People can't access food or get through to unemployment. This list goes on and on. Many of you know that I have direct experience dealing with crisis management — helping to create jobs in the aftermath of the 2008 meltdown and leading disaster relief efforts in Puerto Rico on behalf of NY after Hurricane Maria. Having worked through those situations, I could not be more frustrated and disappointed in our federal government. I need your help to get to Washington. Will you chip in here to build our campaign? If the last few years, and even weeks, have shown us anything, it’s that we can’t wait for someone else to make the change we need. We have to do it ourselves. That’s why I’m in this fight — I’m determined to make it to Congress and get straight to work on the issues affecting us. Will you join our fight by donating now? All my best, |
