Hi John,
We’ve known for months that America’s border security and immigration crisis is on an unsustainable pace. Law enforcement officials apprehended 3.2 million unlawful migrants in fiscal year 2023 – that’s a 40 percent increase just from 2021, and the highest level in decades. In Texas alone, law enforcement officials apprehended more than 1,561,000 unlawful migrants in 2023.
President Biden’s executive order last week is a Band-Aid fix, not a lasting solution. This problem won’t get solved until we get leaders in Congress willing to come together to find a path forward – and that is exactly the mission of No Labels. We’re working to support leaders from both parties willing to reach across the aisle and build a commonsense coalition to fix this crisis.
The costs of doing nothing are too high – the U.S. immigration system is handling over 3 million pending cases, with more than 1 million added in the past 12 months. This backlog means that it can take upwards of six years for asylum seekers to get a legal ruling on their eligibility to stay here.
The lack of border security is also driving countless tragic overdose deaths across our state. Just recently, Texas law enforcement seized a mind-boggling 448 million lethal doses of fentanyl in a raid as part of Gov. Abbott’s Operation Lone Star.
It’s time for action to fix this. Join us in supporting leaders in Congress who are working across party lines to address these incredible challenges and build a safer future for all Americans.
