Dear John,
As government spending on the coronavirus continues to grow, Citizens Against Government Waste’s (CAGW) ongoing work to identify and stop waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement is more important than ever.
Today, as a reminder of how these new and unprecedented expenditures could be partially offset by cutting unnecessary spending, CAGW is proud to announce the release of our comprehensive and interactive Earmark Database.
Since CAGW became the first organization to release a complete list of Congress’s pork-barrel spending, or earmarks, in the 1991 Congressional Pig Book, we have documented 111,144 earmarks costing taxpayers $359.8 billion. All earmarks meet CAGW’s seven-point criteria, developed in conjunction with the Congressional Porkbusters Coalition.
CAGW’s Earmark Database marks the first time in history that comprehensive information on all of these wasteful, corrupt, and inequitable projects is available to the public in an easily accessible, searchable database.
All earmarks included in the database include the year the project was funded, a summary of the project, and how much taxpayer money was spent on the project. Many earmarks include additional data, including the state(s) where the spending took place, the names of the members of Congress who inserted the funding, whether the money was added by the House or Senate or in conference, or whether the President requested any funding.
CAGW has shined a spotlight on these projects since we issued the first Congressional Pig Book 29 years ago. Now, all of the underlying research for the report is available to citizens, activists, the media, lawmakers, and researchers.
Please visit our Earmark Database today!
Sincerely,

Thomas A. Schatz
President
P.S. At this critical moment in time, CAGW’s ongoing efforts to save taxpayer dollars has never been more vital. Please make a tax-deductible donation today support our ongoing efforts to reduce government waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement. Without your financial support, projects like the Earmark Database and the Congressional Pig Book would never be available, and all of this spending would remain hidden from the American people.
