Happy Father’s Day to all the father figures in our communities!
Today is a day of mixed emotions. I miss my father, as I do every single day, but on Father’s Day I miss him even more. He was my first great example of what a community servant looks like, and he was passionate about taking care of the most vulnerable, especially children and unhoused elders.

He was unapologetic about fundraising for the “Asilo Casa Hogar La Divina Providencia” (a group home and senior housing for unhoused children and seniors). He would always repeat a phrase from a poem “En vida Hermano en Vida” - in life my sibling, in life, meaning that we need to take actions when we are alive.
Thank you, Papá, and although you are not here, your presence continues to guide me every day.

My husband, Eddie, was also fortunate to have an amazing and selfless father, and I get to see that love he experienced in the way that he loves and cares for our son EJ: his patience when he coaches EJ on his baseball skills, to the deep conversations they have about sports, star wars, and life in general. Eddie works hard to provide the best he can, and he models to our son what is to be an amazing man.
Eddie has also been an amazing partner during this entire campaign. At our headquarters, he's known as the MVP, and he truly is!

We are so lucky, and today, more than any day, it is important that we remind ourselves that we must work on policies that help families stay together, from access to health care to paid family and medical leave to comprehensive immigration reform.
With love and respect for all father figures!
Raquel
