Dear Neighbor,

Wishing all the dads in our community a very happy Father’s Day today.  Being a father to my four sons is the greatest privilege of my life.   I’m fortunate to have learned from the very best! Thank you, dad, for teaching me the values and importance of faith, family and service to others.  I could never ask for a better father, mentor, and friend.

Making Washington Work for You

Fighting for our Heroes:  Last week, the 2025 National Defense Authorization Act passed the House.  It honors our commitment to our nation’s veterans, bolsters national security, and delivers conservative victories.

Strengthening our Healthcare System:  In last week’s Energy and Commerce Mark-Up, we passed several important healthcare bills that will increase access to care, address waste, fraud, and abuse, and help make care more affordable.  Two bills I authored passed as part of this package.

As C0-Chairman of the Congressional Diabetes Caucus, it was great to speak at Breakthrough T1D (formerly known as Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)’s annual conference about the work my colleagues and I are doing to facilitate the development of and access to better treatments for diabetes.  Together, we are making important strides toward the development of a potential cure while helping people living with this condition improve management of their disease.

Also, my co-chair, Congresswoman DeGette, and I were excited to meet with Grammy winning recording artist, Usher, on the Hill to discuss the work we are doing to help promote Type 1 Diabetes awareness and education and fight for policy changes that will improve patient outcomes through screening, early detection, proper disease management, and improved access to effective treatments.

Defending Life:  I’m proud of my pro-life voting record in Congress and for once again being named as an A+ Legislator by the Students for Life Action group.

Affirming Congress's Oversight Responsibility:  The weaponized Department of Justice is out of control in its protection of President Biden and its blatant political persecution of President Trump.  This week, the House voted to hold Attorney General Garland in contempt for his refusal to comply with a lawful subpoena to produce the tapes of the Special Counsel’s interviews with President Biden regarding his mishandling of classified documents.

Learning from You Here at Home:  It was great to hear from some of our neighbors at last week’s AMAC Town Hall in Hernando.  These constituents were upset with crippling inflation, the dangerous invasion taking place at our southern border, and the weaponization of the criminal justice system to target political foes.  They want to see sanity restored, strengthening of election integrity and the preservation of Social Security and Medicare.  I promised to continue fighting to make that happen!

I was honored to receive a legislative leadership award from our local chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).  I will keep working to raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving and to ensure our law enforcement officers have the tools they need to crack down on this deadly crime.

ICYMI- At the request of his father, I’m working to honor the memory of a fallen local hero, Specialist Justin Dean Coleman, by renaming the post office in Brooksville after him. Click here to learn more about this family’s tremendous sacrifice.

During my open office hours, I enjoyed speaking with two New Port Richey constituents who are working to preserve the original Gulf High School for cultural and recreational enhancement.  I believe the best ideas come from those I serve.  Please don’t hesitate to contact my office to schedule an appointment if you’d like to discuss any issues.

Community Connection

I am fortunate to have a team of dedicated staff who regularly attend events throughout our community, especially when I am required to be in Washington, DC. Through their collective efforts, I am better able to stay connected to the issues that matter most to my constituents. As part of my commitment to developing a better understanding of the issues facing constituents in Citrus, Hernando and Pasco counties, members of my team attended several events last week.  Here are a few highlights.

My team participated in a discussion about affordable housing in Citrus County.  It is great to see leaders at the federal, state, and local levels working together to solve this challenge.

My team also attended the groundbreaking of the Derek J. Mitchell Family Support Center at the Metropolitan Ministries Supportive Housing program.  This new center will be a wonderful addition to our community in the effort to help families in need of support!

Additionally, my team attended the opening of a new NAMI facility in Hernando County.  It is important to provide support for those in our community who are struggling with mental health issues and their families.

Constituent Corner

My team recently received this message after helping a constituent get her Social Security issue resolved.

The Congressman probably saved my life. Without getting this SSA issue solved I wouldn’t been able to have my mammogram to get checked for Breast cancer. Thank you once again.

This is just one example of the work we do each day.  Constituent services are a critical element of our congressional office. The federal government is a massive operation, and my office is available if you ever need assistance in navigating the bureaucracy or cutting through red tape. We are here to serve you!

Sincerely,
