John,

Today is Father’s Day–a time to show our appreciation and gratitude to all of the fathers in our lives for all they do for us.

I am a very proud father of three beautiful daughters, and grandfather to five adorable grandkids.

They make me feel so lucky every single day.

Father’s Day is a bittersweet time for me, though.

I remember when I received my cancer diagnosis on Father's Day weekend in 2015. And I remember the first Father’s Day after my father, Larry Hogan Sr., passed away.

The impact he had on my life cannot be overstated. Today, I remember all of our great memories together, and reflect on how much of an inspiration he was to me and so many others. I am grateful every single day for the principles he instilled in me and the example he set. I would not be the man I am today without him.

My father served on the House Judiciary Committee during Watergate as the whole world watched the impeachment proceedings.

Despite tremendous political pressure, he put aside partisanship and answered the demands of his conscience to do what he thought was the right thing for the nation that he loved.

“Party loyalty,” he said, “and personal affection and precedents of the past must fall before the arbiter of men’s actions: the law itself.

No man, not even the President of the United States, is above the law. For our system of justice and our system of government to survive, we must pledge our highest allegiance to the strength of the law and not to the common frailties of man.”

With those words, my father became the first Republican to come out for the impeachment of President Richard Nixon.

The decision cost him dearly. He lost friends and supporters and his party’s nomination for governor that year.

But it earned him something more valuable: a quiet conscience and an honored place in history. I learned a lot about integrity and public service from my dad.

He taught me more about integrity in one day than most men learn in a lifetime, and I am so proud to be his son.

Larry Hogan Sr. had the courage to put the country first, ahead of political parties or his own personal interests.

We could use more leaders like that today.

I’m running for the U.S. Senate to carry on his example of principled, independent leadership. Many of our politicians have forgotten–or are choosing to ignore–the fact that our country should always come before party politics.

It’s time to follow the example my father set. It’s time to return strong, independent leadership to Washington once again.

Thank you for taking the time to read my father’s story this Father’s Day. I hope it gave you greater insight into where I come from and the principles on which I was raised.

I also want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to all of the fathers or father-like figures who have had a positive impact on your lives.

We are all lucky to have them.

Happy Father’s Day!

Thank you,

Governor Larry Hogan

A Personal Message from Governor Larry Hogan:

[link removed]

Hi, it’s Governor Larry Hogan.

When I launched my campaign for the U.S. Senate, I did so with a deep resolve to maintain the leadership style and principles that guided me during my eight years as governor.

Fifty years ago, my father, Maryland Congressman Larry Hogan Sr. made a tough decision. He became the first Republican to come out for the impeachment of President Nixon. He put aside party politics and his own personal considerations and stepped up to do the right thing for Maryland and the nation.

Today, Washington is completely broken because that kind of leadership and willingness to put country over party has become far too rare. But it’s not in my nature to sit back and watch the dysfunction continue without doing what I can to roll up my sleeves and get to work.

I’m under no illusion this will be an easy road. But I’m no stranger to uphill battles, and I know I can’t do it without your support.

I don't aspire to be a United States senator. I don’t need a title and I don’t need a job, but I’m more concerned than ever about the direction of the country and I have become more convinced that I can make a difference by taking the approach and style of leadership I had during my eight years as governor to Washington.

It’s no surprise this mindset has made me a target of the Washington partisans. Despite early polls showing a lead, I know I’m the underdog in this race. And that’s why your support TODAY is so crucial.

So if you can chip in a donation of $25 or more, it will go a long way in helping me continue building a strong campaign.

For eight years, we proved that the toxic politics that divide our nation didn’t need to divide our state, and we got results! Let’s get back to work again and send a message to Washington that will be heard loud and clear across the country!
