Chelsea, Massachusetts — a city in the MA-07 — is among the hardest hit communities in the state by the COVID-19 pandemic. As of Tuesday, more than 600 people in Chelsea have tested positive for the virus — the highest per capita infection rate in Massachusetts, and higher even than New York City.
As a community, Chelsea is home to many immigrants, people of color, and low-income families, who are especially vulnerable to the health and economic dangers of this crisis, and many of whom are being left out from our federal response to COVID-19.
The One Chelsea Fund — created in partnership with the United Way — will help provide immediate financial relief to families and individuals in Chelsea who are feeling the impact of the COVID-19 crisis.
Along with communities already at greater risk because of entrenched disparities in access to health care, clean air and water, and economic opportunity, many Chelsea residents aren’t able to stay home from work — putting their health and the health of their families at risk on a daily basis.
In light of these challenges, contributions to the One Chelsea Fund will be used to support food pantries, supplement rent payments, and assist with childcare and utility expenses.
