Dear John
If you haven’t heard about Captain
Tom Moore already, then you’re in for a heartwarming treat.
Captain Tom is approaching his
100th birthday and wanted to do something special. He set out to raise
£1,000 for NHS Charities Together by completing 100 laps of his
garden.
Today he completed his final lap.
But he didn’t raise £1,000. He raised £14,000,000 (yes that’s fourteen
million)!
His daughter described him as a
‘beacon of hope in dark times’ and I couldn’t agree more.
His achievement comes at a time
when we’re being braced for a lockdown extension and speculation is
rising that social distancing measures may have to be with us in some
form for a year or more.
But veteran Captain Tom has seen it
all, including having served in World War Two, and he has the
reassuring words we need to hear too. He said:
"We will get through it in the
end but it might take time, but at the end of the day we shall all be
okay again... the sun will shine on you again and the clouds will go
away."
Thank you, Captain Tom, for giving
everyone a much-needed boost. And thank you to everyone who donated
to his fundraiser, showing once again how generous and kind so many
people are being in these tough times.
Kind regards
Siobhan Benita
