Governor Abbott, Include This Provision in Your Executive Order to Restart the Economy - The governor’s recent executive order outlining essential businesses means there are thousands of undocumented workers in construction and other critical industries in Texas who are now considered essential. Since these workers and their mobility will also be essential for restarting our economy, TxSIP has a provision that we recommend Governor Abbott include in his upcoming executive order.

Essential and Undocumented: The Face of the Recovery  - Now more than ever we must get serious about building a resilient workforce for the next disaster. Ignoring the fact that we have hundreds of thousands of workers in the shadows that we are relying on in time of crisis makes no sense. It’s time to ID and tax the 11 million undocumented already in our country who can pass a background check and agree to pay taxes.

More Funding Needed to Protect Paychecks in Pandemic  - Returning our country to a sense of normalcy will require a departure from Congress’ normal behavior. There’s no time for partisanship or attempts to gain leverage. We all win, or we all lose. It’s time to provide more funding for the Paycheck Protection Program so we can ensure that once life goes back to normal, Texas will be open for business.
