Dear Reader,
You were probably taught not to talk politics or religion at the dinner table. And you’ve probably noticed we talk a lot about politics and religion at FIRST THINGS.
These topics tend to generate far more heat than light. Doubly so in our current moment, when social media rewards heat-generation.
But it doesn’t have to be this way. As a reader of FIRST THINGS, you recognize that we can’t simply remain silent in the public square about politics and religion. But it’s imperative that we generate less heat and more light.
Reader, you read FIRST THINGS but have not yet made a charitable gift.
Your first gift is needed to bring less heat and more light to our public conversations about politics, culture, and religion through FIRST THINGS. And it is needed now, because our Spring Campaign ends on June 30 at midnight.

Reader, your support will empower FIRST THINGS to care more about speaking the truth than generating clicks.
Your support will enable FIRST THINGS to be a fearless magazine that consistently applies first principles to pressing issues in politics, religion, and culture without fear or favor.
Your support will equip FIRST THINGS to be an influential magazine with the ear of civic, religious, and cultural leaders who share our commitments.
Will you make your first gift today? Give now at firstthings.com/spring. ([link removed])
Ironically, by speaking these truths—by shedding this light—FIRST THINGS receives a lot of heat.
You may have noticed that orthodox religious voices are not exactly celebrated in today’s public square. For our part, FIRST THINGS has been called many names and our allegedly sinister machinations “exposed.”
But as you well know, there’s nothing to expose because we have nothing to hide. There is no shadowy cabal of billionaire funders. And there is no hiding our commitments. Anyone with a mailbox or an internet connection can see for themselves what we’re about.
Please deepen your engagement with the institution that boldly defends religious voices in the public square by making a Spring Campaign contribution.
