John — Instead of working on a whole host of issues important to the American people, MAGA Republicans in the House and the Senate hosted none other than Donald Trump at the Capitol this week.
Or as I call it: Bring your felon to work day.
That’s right. Donald Trump returned to the Capitol to meet with the same MAGA Republicans who enabled his assault on democracy and support his extremist policies and authoritarian agenda.
Members of Congress presented Trump with a birthday cake. They welcomed him warmly back to the Capitol complex — where he incited rioters to attack them only three years earlier. I remember it vividly. I was with those GOP members as they fled for their lives. Even Mitch McConnell, who once stood up to Trump’s dangerous rhetoric, stood proudly alongside Trump this week and called for unity.
It’s shameful behavior, John. But at this point, it’s no surprise.
Donald Trump is promising to be a dictator on day one if he’s elected and prophesying a bloodbath if he’s not. Just like he incited an insurrection on January 6th. The GOP knows exactly who he is, and they are welcoming him back to the Capitol with open arms.
This says as much about Congressional Republicans as it says about Donald Trump. They don’t care about anything except gaining power. They have shown us who they really are over and over. There is nothing — absolutely nothing — that would make them back away from Trump if it means another chance to rule.
Not their oath. Not the Constitution. Only power matters to them. That’s why we have to defeat them this November.
Please pitch in to my campaign to defeat MAGA extremism up and down the ballot this fall. We cannot let Trump back into the White House, nor can we let his biggest enablers control the House or the Senate.
