Corporate Health Care Cost Jason Call's Mother Her Life
Jason Call is a former public high school teacher and
union leader, and a lifelong anti-war and climate activist. He is
running for Congress in Washington’s 2nd congressional district with
the Green Party. This is a very competitive district for the Greens,
and we are excited to support his campaign. Medicare For All is one
of his and our top issues.
The Green Party of the US has budgeted $20,000 towards candidate
support over the last two calendar years, which is administered by us
at the GPUS Coordinated Campaign Committee to support worthy
candidates.
Jason launched his campaign more than a year ago and has received
two $1500 grants from us. Aside from Jason and other congressional
candidates, school board, city/town council, mayoral, and state level
candidates have received grants.

68,000 Americans die every year because they can’t get the
care they need
Like many of you, I’ve felt the
impact of our broken healthcare system on a very personal level. I
lost my mom to the corporate greed of the health insurance
industry.
She had gone into the hospital for
an operation and as they prepared to discharge her the next day, she
could tell something was wrong. She pleaded for more time, but her
doctor had no choice – her insurance company would only pay for one
night’s stay in the hospital.
The infection and complications she
developed as a result took her life. All because the insurance company
didn’t want to pay for the care she needed.
The wait for Medicare for All is,
quite literally, killing us.
People are rationing their insulin
and skipping medications because Americans pay
256% more for
our prescription drugs than other developed countries.
They are delaying treatment because
they’re afraid of skyrocketing out-of-pocket costs, and dying because
of it.
Doctors spend as much time fighting
with insurance companies to approve essential medical treatments as
they spend treating patients.
I believe healthcare is a human
right, and I am committed to passing Medicare

I’ve been fighting for universal
healthcare for over a decade. As a board member for Whole Washington,
I’ve helped lead the effort to get a state-funded single-payer system
on the ballot here in my home state.
Passing universal healthcare on a
state-by-state basis will help millions of Americans who can’t get the
care they need right now. But it isn’t enough. We need healthcare for
ALL Americans.
My opponent in this race is a former lobbyist for the
dental industry who fiercely opposes single-payer
healthcare.
My mother’s death was preventable,
and so are the estimated 68K deaths that happen every year because
people can’t get the treatment they need.
I will keep fighting for single
payer until EVERY American is covered – in full, for free.

Committee. There are eight of us on the committee. We each have
campaign experience and are elected by the GPUS National Committee to
provide support to candidates. We vet the applications and when we
find them worthy we strive to be as generous as possible within our
financial means.
